With extensive experience across universities, private colleges, and professional education providers, our work is grounded in academic excellence, regulatory alignment, and innovation in emerging fields.

Led by Professor Kylie O’Brien PhD, Satori Medicine brings a distinguished track record in curriculum development and academic leadership. In the early 2000s, Professor O’Brien played a foundational role in shaping integrative medicine education in Australia, developing three of the country’s four Master’s degrees in Chinese Medicine: Master of Chinese Herbal Medicine at RMIT University, Master of Acupuncture and Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Western Sydney University

Her academic leadership spans both undergraduate and postgraduate education, having coordinated courses in Chinese medicine within the university sector. She has also held senior roles including National Academic Director at a private naturopathy college, Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) at Victoria University, and Director of Assessment and Learning Design at Deakin University where she contributed to the redesign of the curricula framework across the university.

Professor O’Brien brings deep expertise in higher education standards and regulation as a long-standing member of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) since 2015. She has supported multiple institutions with curriculum review and documentation for TEQSA accreditation processes, ensuring programs meet rigorous national standards.

Her work also extends to innovative program development in emerging therapeutic areas. She founded the International College of Cannabinoid Medicine (ICCM), Australia’s first dedicated online learning platform for doctors focused on the evidence base of medicinal cannabis. She has contributed to curriculum development for Mind Medicine Australia, strengthening their Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies, and has held education leadership roles with the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) and the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM), where she helped reshape postgraduate programs.

With deep experience spanning Chinese herbal medicine, medicinal cannabis, and clinical research governance, our approach is grounded in scientific rigour, regulatory insight, and real-world applicability.
Led by Professor Kylie O’Brien PhD, Satori Medicine brings a track record of pioneering research and strategic leadership. Professor O’Brien completed her PhD at Monash University in 2006, conducting the first research outside China for Tasly Pharmaceutical Company into one of their flagship Chinese herbal medicines—marking an early contribution to the global evidence base for traditional medicine.

Since 2018, her work has focused extensively on medicinal cannabis research. She has led multiple observational studies, including:

  • Project Twenty21 Australia, in collaboration with Drug Science (UK)
  • An observational study on medicinal cannabis for primary dysmenorrhoea
  • An observational study on medicinal cannabis for menopause symptoms, in collaboration with NICM Health Research Institute

Her expertise also extends to research infrastructure and data systems. She led the initial development of a Chinese herb–drug/supplement interaction database for UnityHealth in partnership with a Hong Kong research team, later advancing this work in Australia through the NICM Health Research Institute.

Professor O’Brien has extensive experience in research ethics and governance, having chaired and served on multiple Human Research Ethics Committees, including chairing a faculty HREC at Victoria University. During her time with the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) HREC, she played a key role in the development of the Authorised Prescriber Pathway for medicinal cannabis—an important mechanism enabling doctors to prescribe within Australia’s regulatory framework. She has also contributed at a national level as a member of the Therapeutic Goods Administration Advisory Committee on Complementary Medicines.
